Jeffrey Paul: Before Asking Me Questions

Before Asking Me Questions

If you’ve been linked here, it’s because you’ve asked me a question to which I think the following advice applies.

Before asking me (general) questions, consider if your question is better posted as a thread on the BBS.

You’ll get the same response you’d get from me, but also:

  • your question, and my response, will be immortalized for the benefit of others on the BBS, now and in the future
  • other smart hackers and privacy people will likely have additional insights that I don’t (“none of us are as smart as all of us”)

The BBS exists to serve as a community resource and knowledge base: threads don’t expire, so any discussion that people have there remains searchable (to members; it is not public or indexed by Google et al) and useful in perpetuity.

This is not to discourage you from contacting me directly if your question is private or includes private context specific to you.
